Services
Because of my younger sister's inability to travel, we will postpone services for Mom until March. Please visit again as we will post details when we know Dawn will be able to attend. Thanks to all for the calls and emails — please use this site as you wish as a forum for and about Mom.

Mom wearing her new Chico's jacket — Christmas 2007
Goodbye Mom.
After fighting cancer for six months, struggling with dementia for seven years, and living with celiac for 10, Mom left us to a better place today at 10:45am. She had slipped into a sleeping coma since Wednesday. Her constant wish was "that it was over;" that "it was taken out." On Wednesday as I sat with her at dinner, she suddenly said out of the blue, "oh, this is so hard — I have to choose between the two of them."

When Mom came back from MD Anderson, San Antonio was overcast, cold and wet. But this morning, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Hummingbirds, which we don't usually see until March, were out to celebrate the day, as well as other birds singing in the treetops. God bless my mom, and I thank Him for letting me be with her these last six wonderful months. I'll see you soon Mom — we all will. Thank you for your love and hope.

I will post details about her service in the next few days. In lieu of flowers, I ask you to consider donating to a scholarship fund in Mom's name for speech students — I will post more info in it in future postings.

Bad news.
The doctor determined from the tests and mom's current state that it is not advantageous to continue treatment further - the cancer has taken hold too aggressively. Mom and dad plan to stay with us for a couple of weeks or longer. They will eventually go home.

Please continue your prayers. Mom is scared and if you haven't seen or called her, it would be good to do that soon.

Mom gets a visitor over the holidays — Cameron Johnson

Update.
Mom had a great holiday season. But the cancer is making its way back to the stage. She and Dad will be coming back to San Antonio to go to MD Anderson in a week - I encourage anyone interested to visit her either while they are in El Paso or while they are in San Antonio with us. You can email me or call us for arrangements [(210) 710-4491].
